Welcome to The WIDE World Waist-Land!

In a first experiment from Earthbound Books, we’re attempting the first (that we know of) interactive story here on Itch.io that’s open for EVERYONE! An exquisitely corpulent story if you will. Even those who want to remain anonymous!

What’s the story?

Here’s the setup. Just before a nuclear war a portion of humanity was herded into underground silos. Set one hundred and fifty years post nuclear war are lead character is Sarah Spicer, a shy nerdy silo citizen who has only known life underground. Now, depending on where the story leads, she’s been entrusted with a major quest that could end up saving, not just her silo home, but the future of the entire human race! Will she have to venture above ground to investigate certain factories in California? Will she end up working with the mysterious silo overseer? When and where does weight gain work its way into this? When everyone can add their own addition, who knows where the story will end up going!

How does an interactive story like this work?

As you read through the story, multiple branches of options will be laid out for you. However, if you’d like to make an addition of your own and see the story head another way, write down the chapter number (upper right-hand corner and in yellow) and after reading and agreeing to our rules of submission, send an email with your own chapter attached. Your addition will be added in batches, and you’ll be given an author’s page where a list of your chapters added as well as where people can find more of your work! (Don’t worry you can also submit anonymously if you’d like!) Rather than automatically, these batch update's are planned to happen weekly (usually Sunday nights here in the USA.)

We’d like people to attempt to finish certain pathways so we think having a deadline, and a single main character will help keep the story focused, so we plan to keep this up for half a year that’s or around 26 weeks from out start date. [Possibly October 23rd ish?]

We don’t want to promise we’ll keep updating this forever, but it will remain readable permanently here on our itch.io store for free forever. Though tips are always, always, always appreciated! (And, depending on how well this wacky experiment goes, we might try new additional titles.)

When completed, we also plan to possibly finish all pathways, and put this onto our STEAM account as well, (again FREE!) So, anyone whose work is featured here will also be in front of the millions of eyes on a STEAM store game as well!
